Wandering women in Paris.

It is an overloaded life of misery for these lonely women in the city. They are homeless first of all, and they may be drug addicts, Eastern girls, deserted wives, persons suffering psychologically, incest victims, victims of violence, women over sixty who will never find another job again, illegal immigrants…The common exhaustion these wandering women share often hides very different days: for some it will be working for a ridiculously low salary with no benefits in a restaurant, others will wander through the labyrinth of the French bureaucracy in the hope to find a job or a roof, some will beg or prostitute themselves…They may just be still and wait for the day to pass until the next shelter, exhausted and left with no more courage. In 2000 in Paris more than 5000 women have called the “115”, the emergency number for the homeless. A third of the persons using that number are women. The number of homeless women has increased in Paris but also in the rest of the country. These women, whose ages range from 15 to 75 years old, are mostly alone but more and more are in the streets with their kids.
